State of Florida Guidelines

Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants and Personal Care Assistants are designated to work within a home environment providing hands-on personal care assistance.

Live-in Caregivers are HHA’s, CNA’s and PCA’s who work and live in the home. These Caregivers cannot administer medications of any kind, although they can remind the patient / client to take medications.

This level of care provides:

  • Assistance with bathing.
  • Assistance with personal care (oral, hair etc).
  • Assistance with toileting and / or incontinence care.
  • Assistance with dressing / undressing.
  • Preparation of meals.
  • Assistance with feeding.
  • Changing bed linens.
  • Performing light housekeeping (including laundry, dusting, general cleaning)
  • Running errands (shopping, outings, doctors appointment’s)
  • Medication reminders

State of Florida Law requires CNA’s to hold a current license and CPR card.

State of Florida Law requires HHA’s to hold a current CPR card and have certification passing a competency test covering a wide range of areas:

Communication; documentation of patient status and care provided; reading and recording vital signs; basic infection control procedures; basic bodily functions; maintenance of a health environment; emergency procedures; physical, emotional and developmental characteristics of patients/clients; personal hygiene and grooming; safe transfer techniques; normal range of motion and positioning; and basic nutrition.
