Registered Nurses (RN)/Under State of Florida Guidelines

A Registered Nurse can instruct Licensed Practical Nurses, Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants, Personal Care Assistants, and Homemaker / Companions.

An RN can provide direct hands on skilled nursing assistance for the administration of medication and treatments for the patient/client.

An RN can also monitor the status of the patient / client care and report / take orders from the Physician in charge of care.

Limitations: An RN cannot prescribe medications.

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)/Under State of Florida Guidelines

A licensed Practical Nurse can instruct Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants, Personal Care Assistants and Homemaker / Companions.

An LPN can provide direct hands on skilled nursing assistance for the administration of medication and treatments for the patient / client.

An LPN can also monitor the status of the patient / client care and report / take orders from the Physician in charge of care. An LPN works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Limitations: An LPN cannot administer certain types of intravenous medications or narcotics, nor can they prescribed medications.

HHA/CNA/Live in Caregivers/Under State of Florida Guidelines

Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistance and Personal Care Assistants are designated to work within a home environment providing hands-on personal care assistance.

Live-in Caregivers are HHA’s, CNA’s, and PCA’s who work and live in the home. These Caregivers cannot administer medications of any kind, although they can remind the patient / client to take medications.

Homemakers / Companions/Under State of Florida Guidelines

A Homemaker / Companion are designated for work within a home environment to provide non-hands-on assistance.
