Aside from the health challenges associated with aging, one of the points of concern for the elderly and their caregivers is frequent falls. According to the centers for disease control and prevention (CDC), about 2.5 million people aged 65 years and above require emergency treatment in hospitals due to fall at home. In about one-third of these cases, chances of recurrence within a year are high as studies have shown.

The risk for falls is higher in the elderly than in any other age group and this risk increases with age.
